about

Doom Vibrations is the original score to the short documentary of the same name, both made by Garret Harkawik.

The film follows Connecticut resident Steve Kohlhase throughout his 10-year odyssey to figure out the source of a low frequency hum he hears inside his house. It was released by The Atlantic as part of their selects series in late 2019.

The score was composed primarily using field recordings and a glockenspiel. Being that film was about low frequency sound, Garret spent a lot of time recording and playing around with natural and man-made hums. Much of these recordings ended up being used as both sound design in the film as well as elements of the music.

Tracks 1-8 are cues from the film, some of which have been remixed and expanded for this release. Track 9 takes elements of the film’s sound design and bits of the previous tracks to create a 13-minute ambient composition. Garret also incorporated recordings pulled from material he has collected during his near-decade career as a documentary filmmaker.
